Hyderabad: Telangana mangoes have made debut in Delhi with a bang on Sunday. A counter was opened with a view to make available the best quality carbide-free mangoes. The counter witnessed a brisk sale of 10 tonnes mangoes. These mangoes were picked from farms in Jagtial and Kollapur in Mahbubnagar districts.

According to officials of Horticulture Department, in the undivided Andhra Pradesh, only mangoes from Nuzvid in Krishna were popular. Now Telangana State has embarked on the mission to popularise mangoes in north. Banginapally (Benishan) and Himayat are sold at Rs 80 and Rs 100 a kg respectively in Delhi. They are delivered to customers in a box of 5 kg each. People thronged to the stall opened Telangana Bhavan.

“We have packed the mangoes neatly in attractive boxes. The boxes have catchwords like 'tasty’ and ‘best quality carbide free mangoes of Telangana' were printed on them. In fact, the sale of these mangoes began from May 8. The stall at Telangana Bhavan in Delhi was inaugurated by Karimnagar Lok Sabha member B Vinod Kumar.

Officials said many people including politicians from Telangana State purchased large quantities of mangoes and gifted them to their friends in Delhi.Congress party Deputy floor leader in Telangana Legislative Council Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy said that he too had purchased some boxes during his visit to Delhi and gave them to his friends.

“Even before the summer begins my friends in the capital keep asking me about the mangoes. I found this to be an opportunity to gift Telangana mangoes to them and they liked them very much, he said.According to officials, this year's production crossed over 9 lakh metric tonnes as against 7 lakh metric tonnes last year.
