Kamlesh BarwalWe are what we eat, says Kamlesh Barwal, an international faculty yoga trainer with the Art of Living foundation. Over 400 people took part in the five-day course she administered recently.

People were made to do simple and yet effective warm-ups to ignite their buttons of joy within, “these can bring about a sense of refinement from within,” she says.

“These stretches can be practiced by any age group. They are gentle but effective and serves as perfect exercise to the body,” she explain.

“If you notice people shaking their legs all the time, it’s generally because of all the spicy and over cooked food that they consume,” says Kamlesh.

“The more hyperactive you behave, it’s more evident that you are consuming more of ‘Rajasic food’ (food type according to ayurveda),” she adds.

“While Rajasic food makes you hyperactive, ‘Tamas’ (another food type according to ayurveda) makes you more negative.

Over heated, stored, packed and non-vegetarian food gives you nothing and takes long hours to be digested. Eventually all your energy is spent on digestion process alone and you end up feeling low,” explains Kamlesh about the behavioral changes we undergo due to the type of food we consume.

We breathe in order to survive. But with the busy lifestyle, only 30 per cent of our lungs are being used on an average. The less intake of breath means the less energy you will have,” clarifies Kamlesh when asked about Pranayama (a breathing technique).

“Lack of Prana makes you more tired, low and increases fears over many things. All you need is to have sufficient and proper breath. And above all mind can’t be fixed. Your breath serves as a link to fix the mind and control the body,” says Kamlesh.

“Yoga helps you to discover yourself. It makes you realise that joy is present within yourself. Self discovery is possible through Yoga. But these days’ people are disconnected from the inner joy and are living on outside stimulus, seeking temporary joy,” opines Kamlesh when asked about making peace with yourself.

“Knowing who you and what makes you contented are possible ways to concentrate while meditating” concludes Kamlesh.
