KCR meets Rajnath, seeks rise in Assembly seats
The Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao met the Union Home Minister, Rajnath Singh here on Saturday and requested him to increase the number of Assembly seats in Telangana by introducing the required amendment to the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014. New Delhi: The Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao met the Union Home Minister, Rajnath Singh here on Saturday and requested him to increase the number of Assembly seats in Telangana by introducing the required amendment to the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014. He reminded to the Home Minister that both the Telugu states were on the same page on this issue and Andhra Pradesh (AP) has also been requesting for the same.
On the second day of his tour to New Delhi, the Chief Minister called on Rajnath Singh and discussed the issues related to reorganisation. Rajnath Singh reportedly advised the Chief Minister to consult the Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, M Venkaiah Naidu, in this regard while assuring full cooperation from his ministry in taking forward the issue.
If the Bill is passed by the Parliament, the number of Assembly seats would go up substantially; from present 119 to 153 in Telangana and from present 175 to 250 in AP. The Chief Minister also pointed out the shortage of Indian Police Service (IPS) officers in the state and requested for allotment of 30 more IPS officers to strengthen the policing in the State.
He also had informed the Home Minister that the allotment of employees hasn’t been completed and said it was affecting the day-to-day administration. He sought the bifurcation of the High Court at the earliest. The DGP, Anurag Sharma, was also present at the meeting with the Union Home Minister.
Later in the evening, the Chief Minister met the Supreme Court Chief Justice T S Thakur and discussed the issue of bifurcation of the Hyderabad High Court. The Chief Minister also made courtesy calls on Justice Chalameswar on Friday and Justice N V Ramana on Saturday.
During his meetings in Delhi, the Chief Minister was accompanied by his cabinet colleague, Jagadish Reddy, MPs Jithender Reddy and B. Vinod Kumar and Special Representative of Telangana State Government in New Delhi, K Venugopala Chari.
