Two sisters from Hyderabad, Tanya and Nandini Malhotra started ‘Library on Cart’ to rent books at affordable prices for the denizens.

“We started the ‘Library on Cart’ on May 8. I love reading books, magazines and newspapers, and that is the reason my sister and I are running a small library on cart at our residence (Indian Airlines Colony, Begumpet). At present we have one store in Hyderabad,” says Tanya Malhotra, who is studying Bachelor of Management Studies.

“We have a website Libraryoncart.com, where a user can search for their favourite books and place a request for the same. But before that, a user must register with us so that he or she can become a member of our library. Depending on the plan selected by the user, a person can select four books at a time and our team will deliver these books at the user’s location free of cost. After reading those books, the user can return these books and request for other four books again,” Tanya adds.

Library on cart provides books in various genres like fiction, nonfiction, autobiographies, thrillers, romance, philosophies, self-improvement, business, economy, literature, politics and many more books in English and Hindi.

“My aunty (Neeraj Wadhera) started a store ‘Wrapd’ in Delhi. Her dedication and entrepreneurial skills inspired us to be a part of this venture launched by Wrapd- LOC (Library on Cart). My mother manages ‘Wrapd Hyderabad’; it is a store that is located at Madhapur that rents out party dresses for men and women. My sister and I manage LOC,” Nandini shares, who is in Class IX.

“We rent out books at a nominal charge for Rs 5 per day. Readers can enjoy various categories of books with just Rs 150 per month without any restriction over a number of books,” Tanya shares.

LOC has a monthly subscription of Rs 300 out of which Rs 150 is refundable. This entitles a person to borrow a book or a magazine every day. Non-members can rent a book at the price of Rs 10; however, they have to give a security deposit, which is refundable.

“Besides this, we have two home delivery modules four books or magazines per month for Rs 250 or eight books or magazines at Rs 500 per month. In future, we will expand the idea and have it at multiple locations in the city,” Tanya concludes.
