Road safety measures to be tightened
The State government is gearing up to tighten the road safety measures in the district to prevent accidents which occur frequently on the national highway.

The police department has decided to accord top priority to tackle this menace as hundreds of people are losing lives due to these accidents on national state highways leaving their families in permanent misery. Several families lost their bread winners.
Apart from the speedy disposal of accident cases and setting up traffic police stations on the highways, the police also decided to take steps to regulate the speed of the vehicles by intercepting the over-speeding vehicles.
Besides, traffic police are also conducting breath analyzer tests to catch the drives who are drunk. Furthermore, they are also making available hydraulic cutters, cranes and other necessary equipment on the national highways near the police stations in case of accidents.
The accidents are taking place in the districts of Nizamabad and Kamareddy due to drunken driving, over-speeding, lack of proper driving skills and violating traffic guidelines with impunity, despite warnings.
Accidents happen at regular intervals on NH 44. In order to put an end to such sudden deaths and ghastly accidents, the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has decided to take decision strengthening road safety measures and one of them is tightening of traffic guidelines.
In this connection, a special district Traffic and Road Safety Department was set-up. Drunken driving tests are being conducted on the highways during nights for those travelling on two-wheelers.
Penalties are being imposed on those who refuse to wear helmets as it is leading to premature deaths. The drunkards who are caught driving are forced to serve a jail term too.
Police are also patrolling in special vehicles from Baswapur village of Bikkanur mandal in Kamareddy district to Pochampad village in Nizamabad district to regulate the flow of traffic and prevent accidents. Those violating traffic guidelines would be intercepted and fined.
Besides, the motorists on the highways and other roads are kept under special surveillance in Bhikkanur, Kamareddy and Sadashivnagar within the Kamareddy district and Dichpalli, Jakranpalli, Armoor, Balkonda and Ergatla in Nizamabad districts. Trauma care centre was also set up in district headquarters.
A police station may also be set up on NH 161 connecting Sangareddy-Nanded and Akola Road with adequate police personnel.
If police stations are setup on the two national highways in the districts to regulate the proper flow of traffic, accidents could be reduced to a great extent.
