Suryapet: Series of incidents involving unknown offenders stealing gold ornaments by cheating women in the name of polishing them has became a tough nut to crack for Kodad division police.

Targeting women staying lonely at homes, the duo reportedly succeeded duping them in Surypet, Munagala, Chilkur and newly-formed Chintalapalem mandals of the district in the last one month.

According to the Chilukur Station House officer Ramu, on November 23 Saidamma, a resident of Old Chilukur village lodged a complaint with the police stating that two persons came on a bike and approached her stating that they would polish bronze utensils, glass material and gold ornaments to improve their lustre.

As a part of their plan, first they removed all the dirt of window panes and bronze with water mixed with some chemicals. Later, the duo advised the woman to drop her ornaments in the given water and boil to restore the shine.

Following their directions, she dropped her 2.5 tolas chain in the given water and kept for boiling for some time. Following the duo’s instruction, she kept a lid on the utensil and checked after two hours.

To her shock, she could not find her gold chain. Soon, Saidamma along with her husband approached local police. However, she failed to provide any hints about the offenders during inquiry.

Similarly 10 days ago in Munagala, two unknown bike-borne persons snatched a woman’s gold chain when she was alone at home. The duo first told her about their skill of polishing ornaments. But when she rejected, they snatched her gold chain of 2.75 tolas and fled the spot.

In Dondapadu of Chintalpalem mandal, four days ago the offenders during the process of polishing, sprayed intoxicating powder on two women and ran away with their gold ornaments of 3.5 tolas. It is also learnt that few days ago, a similar incident took place in Suryapet mandal also.

Taking the issue seriously, Kodad police started the probe. Based on their modus operandi, police suspect it could be the handiwork of Khammam district offenders and constituted search parties to hunt the culprits.
