Speaking at an awareness programme organised to mark the 28th Road Safety Week celebrations at Jubilee Hall in Khammam on Wednesday, the Excise Deputy Commissioner suggested the traders not sell the liquor to the minors and drivers, who drive vehicles on the highways.

“By not indulging in alcohol while driving and by following simple traffic rules, many road accidents can be prevented,” opined Divisional Superintendent of Police K Suresh Kumar.

He said many motorists were losing their lives by indulging in drunken driving and those who survive suffering injuries were becoming a burden to their family members.

“More awareness programmes on traffic rules and proper counselling to violators are the need of the hour,” he said, adding that it was the responsibility of the parents to educate their children from teenage about the road safety rules and suggest them to follow strictly to avoid road accidents.

Traffic Circle Inspector of Police P Naresh Reddy, Thirupathi Reddy, Venkatappaiah, Nagendra Chary, Kiran Kumar and Excise Circle Inspector of Police Vijay Kumar, traders and owners of wine shops, restaurants, lodges and hotels attended the programme.
