Nalgonda: Despite a number of enforcement measures, traffic violations in the Nalgonda town go unabated. The number of cases booked against for not wearing helmets increased in the district.

As per official records, the number of cases recorded for not wearing helmet was 2,595 in 2015 and in 2016, the cases recorded were 4,862.

Carrying excess passengers by autos and other vehicles stood at 217 cases in 2016, as against 155 cases in 2015.

However, there has been a significant dip in the cases booked against rash and zig-zag driving. The number of cases booked in 2016 against speed driving was 117, when compared to 248 in 2015.

The counseling classes for the youth over rash driving had given good results. As per the overall statistics, the traffic violations in the city have increased by about 100 per cent in 2016 over the previous year 2015.

The number of traffic violations recorded in 2015 was 18,408 and in 2016 it has gone up to 32,084.But what appears to baffle the traffic police is the increase in the cases driving vehicles without licences. The number of cases recorded for not having licences was 408 in 2015, while in 2016 it touched 841.

Other cases including parking at no parking places, signal jumping, juvenile driving, cell phone driving, triple ridings, decks in autos were also increased considerably. In 2015, the number cases booked under others was 14,993, while in 2016 it was 31,691.

According to traffic police records, the number of drunk driving cases in the town increased from 614 in 2015 to 1,615 in 2016. Till January 20, 2017, 109 motorists were booked for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Nalgonda town traffic CI Adireddy speaking to The Hans India expressed his concern over the increasing cases under MVI Act and drunken drive. He informed that apart from drunk driving cases, they collected a fine of Rs 23,88,050 by booking 18,408 cases in 2015 from violators of traffic rules and collected a fine of 53,63,400 by booking 32,084 cases in 2016.

As a part of enforcement for the last 20 days, Nalgonda traffic police collected a fine of Rs 2.6 lakh from violators and 109 cases were booked under the drunk driving.

He advised the denizens to follow traffic rules to avoid accidents and also for safe and secure journey.

“We have decided to intensify the checks to make Nalgonda an accident-free town” the CI informed.
