Move over, mutton! It’s time for the chicken to rule. A recent survey released by the Poultry Federation and Breeders Association has some shocking results.

The findings reveal that the average per year consumption of poultry by a person in Hyderabad is 31kg, while it is 5kg for the rest of India.

Commenting on the result, Pramod, manager of the delivery section of Paradise Restaurant says, “We get numerous parcel orders every day. Out of which 70 per cent parcels are of non-veg which is more of chicken.”

However, nutritionists and doctors from the city warn that this could be harmful for people. “Consuming non-vegetarian food has equal side effects on human body,” says Dr Madhubala, an Ayurvedic dietician.

“With consuming more of non-veg there are common skin diseases that people are facing. Apart from that there are numerous cases coming up for colon cancer whose sole reason is more non-veg consumption,” she adds.

“Eating once a week is completely fine and it is also good for the body with protein boost. Non-veg like fish is very good for health so such can be taken even thrice a week.

But, food like mutton and chicken are not healthy to be taken more than once a week. After a certain age it turns out to be difficult for digestion too,” says the doctor on managing consumption of chicken meat.
