Nalgonda: Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy advised women to develop dynamism and questioning aptitude to face the challenges and gender discrimination in the society.

On the occasion of National Girl Child Day celebrations on Tuesday, the district administration organised a huge meeting with school children, college students and women at NG College Grounds in Nalgonda.

Addressing the gathering, the Minister said, child marriages were prevented by the continuous efforts of earlier social reformers.

Taking them as a source of inspiration, gender discrimination should be eradicated with the combined efforts of all sections of people.

Stating that gender discrimination started in the society after daughters got rights on the assets of parents, the Minister added that the government had been taking all measures in a planned manner to eliminate selling of girl children, infanticides and attacks on girls and women in the State.

He listed out various government programmes being implemented for the welfare of women and children.

He advised parents to provide education to their daughters on par with sons. District Collector Gaurav Uppal stressed on “Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao” and urged the cooperation of people and NGOs to save girl child.

On this occasion, around 4,000 girls formed a slogan. Cultural programmes organised on the occasion impressed the audience.

Meanwhile, district police conducted an awareness meeting at Kondamallepally mandal headquarter on importance of girl child in the society.

In this programme, district SP Prakash Reddy, Joint Collector Satyanarayana Reddy, State Forest Development Corporation Chairman Banda Narendar Reddy, Nalgonda MP Gutha Sukhendar Reddy, MLAs Ravindrakumar, Veeresham, DRDO Anjaiah, RDO Venkatachary and others participated.
