Warangal Urban: The speakers at farmer’s convention ‘Organic Farming Sustainable Integrated Development’ have called upon farmers to practice organic farming.

The convention was organised by Kazipet-based NGO, Bala Vikasa, at Fatima Nagar on Monday at its Peoples Development Training Centre. More than 2,000 farmers attended the convection from across the State.

BalaVikasa founder Bala Theresa Gingras informed that currently 1,500 farmers were practicing organic farming in around 50 villages. Initially, there were only three farmers who joined the initiative and the number swelled further.

She said Sopar and BalaVikasa were like two faces of a coin and the organisation has been extending services through Sopar and spent around Rs 300 crore in 6,000 villages for different activities.

Those donated the funds for the welfare of the society were poor and everyone should get inspired by them in doing social service and sought advices from all to strengthen the organic farming.

Telangana State Agro-Industries Development Corporation chairman L Kishan Rao, addressing the gathering, promised to extend his support to BalaVikasa’s activities, especially in providing machinery for subsidy rates.

Agriculture joint director Usha Dayal expressed pleasure over large number of farmers practicing organic farming in the district and wanted more to join them. BalaVikasa executive director S Shoury Reddy stressed on the need to rear cattle to sustain organic farming. He shared creative ideas on step to step development of organic farms, implementation and methods related to organic farming.

Several farmers have also shared their success stories. Jana Vikasa Sangham president Lourdu Marredy, programme officer Tirupathi, natural farming advocate Subhash Palekar’s disciples Vijay Ram and Mahesh Jadav were present.
