Warangal Urban: Impressive projects were conceived at ‘INK Makeathon 2017’, conducted by INK Makers in association with Innovation Garage of NIT-W to instill ‘maker and innovation culture’ among undergraduate students.
Nearly 300 participants from 90 teams took part in the 24-hour event concluded on Sunday late evening. The students worked on real world problems to come up with solutions.
Innovation Garage is a 24x7 maker space run by students, faculty and administration in NIT-W aiming to instill innovation culture among students. It helps students implement their technical skills through guest lectures, workshops and makeathon.
The applicants were asked to choose a real-world problem with the theme 'Build To Sell'. They were supported by the mentors Raunaq Samantry, Nikhil Velpanur and Satyajit Mohanty, who were successful entrepreneurs and innovators, informed Uma Prasanna Athikala of Innovation Garage.
Some of the selected teams and their projects were, Collision Squad: Walking Stick for Blind, Cosmos: Smart shopkeeper which brings a product requested by customer and display, Dining Philosophers: an app which gives information about which alternative medicine could be used, Sesto LMNto: a glove fitted with sensors that controls a robotic arm that handles products that are harmful to humans, The Publishers-automatically writes a book on any topic by getting content from social media, Tech Knights: an app which would help plan schedules and targets.
The selected teams take part in a nation-wide conference to get funding and a chance to become entrepreneurs based on their performance, Uma Prasanna added.
Speaking on the Makers event, Lakshmi Pratury, Founder and CEO, INK said, “We are proud to associate our first Makers program with the students of NIT- Warangal. The ideas would be taken to the table over the next few months and INK could contribute to turn ideas into fruition.”
Five winning teams from each event would compete in the finale to be held in April. The top three winners from the finale would get cash prizes, while all participating teams would receive mentorships from January to April.
The next events were scheduled in NIT-Surathkal in February and Manipal University in March.
