Hundreds of monkeys have descended into the village attacking people and snatching away their food. They are destroying huts and those houses with asbestos sheets, entering houses, creating lot of commotion and ransacking them. People are forced to live with constant fear.

The people of the mandal are at a loss as to how they should tackle the monkey menace. However, they decided to face the monkey brigade bravely and rein them in.

The women, children, youth and the old have decided to fight against the monkeys unitedly with sticks. Even the village development committee of Dharpilli mandal has decided to take on the monkeys.

It has passed a resolution urging the people to unite together and drive away the monkeys from the village.

The villagers decided to a chalk out an action plan to drive away the monkeys in one week’s time, something like a monkey eradication week. They have decided to allot the work of driving them away among various caste groups every week.

Speaking to The Hans India here on Friday, one of the villagers said that monkeys have been creating lot of nuisance in the village by attacking them, entering their houses, snatching away their eatables and ransacking the houses.

Children and the elderly are extremely scared of them and as such, they have no choice but to collectively attack them and drive them away, he added.

Another resident of the village R Rajaiah said that members belonging to various caste groups have decided to come together and attack the monkeys by turns every week to put an end to the monkey menace. The monkeys were also inflicting injuries on them, he lamented.

Another local Dhananjay blamed deforestation as the main cause for the monkeys to migrate from the forest regions to the villages.

He said that the indiscriminate felling of trees robbed the monkeys of their food and shelter, resulting in their influx into the human settlements.

He expressed the hope that the State government would come to their rescue in putting an end to the monkey menace without physically harming the monkeys.
