Kamareddy: As residents of Sarampalli village in this mandal have a common name based on Anjaneya Swamy, all respond to calls if one person is addressed. They are named as Anjayya, Anjamma.

A hundred years ago, infants used to die soon after birth and it is said that Hanuman or Anjaneya Swamy appeared the dream of a devotee and told him that infants would survive if they are named after him.

Hence the residents have been using names like Anjayya, Anjavva, Anjaneyulu, Maruthi. Some more have names like Anjaiah, Chinna Anjaiah, Pedda Anjaiah, Nadipi Anjaiah, Anjavva, Pedda Anjavva, Nadipi Anjavva, Chinnna Anjavva.
Some more have been given modern names like Anil, Anirudh, Advith, Arvindraj, using the first letter in Anjaneya Swamy. Of the 100 students in a village school, 70 have been named after Anjaneya.

This phenomenon of having similar names surprised officials who came to Sarampalli to distribute voter ID and Aadhaar cards. During elections, polling staff have been perplexed by too many Anjayyas and Anjavvas among the voters. The personnel got reconciled to the names after realising that they are based on the deity who is worshipped by local residents.

The villagers also believe that childless couples will beget children if they worshipped Anjaneya Swamy in his temple, as He is described as a God who obliges his devotees with a wish.

Learning about this, residents of surrounding villages are making a beeline to the temple to get their wishes fulfilled by worshipping Anjaneya Swamy.
