Karimnagar: Tuberculosis (TB) can be cured if diagnosed at an early stage, said Dr Rajesham, the District Medical and Health Officer (DM & HO).

Addressing at a press meet held at his chamber here on Thursday, on the occasion of World TB Day on March 24, Dr Rajesham said that on an average 1,000 people were getting infected with TB everyday and one TB patient is dying for every three minutes.

TB spreads through the air from one person to another and especially HIV AIDS patients would get infected fast. If cough persists for more than two weeks along with loss of weight and appetite, fever during nights are some of TB symptoms, he informed.

About 942 people were diagnosed with TB in the district and as many as 150 patients were being treated at a separate ward in the District Civil Hospital.

Dr Rajesham also said that a rally will be organised on Friday at about 9 am to bring awareness among the people about the disease on the occasion World TB Day. District TB and HIV co-ordinator P Suresh was also present in the press meet.
