Kamareddy: Fareedpet is a village panchayat in Machareddy mandal which once experienced dire poverty. The villagers used to face terrible hardships as they were jobless. There wasn’t water facility for irrigation. They even used to go to Gulf countries for doing menial works.

The dire poverty created a burning desire in the youth of the village. With the zeal of proving themselves, the youth studied hard and most of them secured government jobs in both the Central and the State governments. At present, there are as many as 130 government employees from the village. Almost every house produced one government employee. These employees are in every department including ‘Mint’ through which the central government prints currency. The village is now called government employees’ village.

It doesn’t mean the village has borne only govt employees. There are doctors, advocates, businessmen, realtors and others too. All of them in spite of settling in various professions at various places came together forming a group in order to repay their gratitude to their native place.

Every year, they encourage students by giving them incentives. This year, the group gave away cash prizes to those students who showed excellence in the SSC examinations. They are helping the students from low income groups to continue with their higher studies. The group set up a library comprises of several books covering all subjects and competitive examinations. The names of the employees of the village are displayed in the library for the students to get an inspiration.

The group has been getting appreciation from all sections of the society for their invaluable services. Speaking to The Hans India here on Friday, Government Whip Gampa Goverdhan expressed the hope stating that the youth from various other villages would take inspiration from the citizens of Fareedpet and emulate them.
