KU Vice-Chancellor Prof Sayanna exhorts young scientists to use computer technology in research work

Hanamkonda: Kakatiya University Vice-Chancellor Prof R Sayanna exhorted the young scientists to make use of computer technology extensively in their research work.

The V-C on Friday inaugurated a two-day national seminar on ‘Recent trends and challenges in chemical sciences’ being organised by the university’s department of chemistry in Hanamkonda.

Prof Sayanna noted that the research in chemical sciences was vital in pharmacy, medicine, biomedical fields. The ultimate purpose of research should be the welfare of the mankind. Research in chemical sciences has provided enhanced comfort of living.

At the same time, the research and innovation should not damage environment and health of humans as happened in the case of polythene covers. Though the polythene covers have multiple uses one could not undermine their negative impacts, the V-C noted.

A professor from Dr BR Ambedkar Centre for Biomedical Research, University of Delhi, Ramesh Chandra delivered keynote address on ‘A Journey from bench to bed: Nascopine: opium alkaloid – a potential chemotherapeutic Agent.”

He advised the researchers to be innovative in their thinking while explained in detail about the anti-cancer drug discovered by their team based on ‘Noscapine’. Good results were being recorded in treating the disease using the drug.

The seminar director Prof Gade Dayakar said six plenary lectures were arranged by eminent scientists. The main objective of the seminar is to create awareness among researchers and students about the latest developments in the field of chemical sciences.

Prof Y Pramila Devi, G Hanmanthu and others took part in the inaugural session. A souvenir of the seminar was released by the Vice-Chancellor and other guests.
