Jangaon: The district administration has started consultations with farmers in view of their opposition to part with their land at Malkpur in Station Ghanpur mandal in the district for the construction of reservoir.

The farmers were told to resolve issues related to land acquisition for the construction of reservoir at the village through consultations. The District Collector, A Devasena, recently held a meeting with a group of farmers and the village elders seeking their cooperation towards construction of reservoir.

It might be noted that the State government has planned to build a reservoir with 10 tmc capacity at Malkapur under Devadula lift irrigation project. It was meant to stabilise ayacut under the project and to provide drinking water to Warangal city.

However, the villagers opposed the proposal saying the reservoir would submerge their village and staged protests expressing their dissent. The Collector speaking to the villagers told them that their acts should not benefit the middlemen while assuring that the district administration and the government would take care to protect the interests of the farmers and the villagers.

“None would be ready to part with their land, but the reservoir, which would be the biggest in the district benefits large number of people. Hence you have to cooperate with the government in constructing the reservoir. Discuss the issue among the villagers and farmers and take a right decision,” Devasena told them.

The Collector promising the villagers to take their views to the government notice wanted them to come up with options as to how they wish to be compensated. ‘Whether you want land, cash or double bedroom houses, tell us clearly then only we could decide how best the government could compensate you,’ she said.

Based on the requirement of farmers in terms of compensation for the land lost to the reservoir, a survey would be conducted and it requires the farmers and villagers support, Devasena said while explaining her limitations in resolving the issue. Revenue divisional officer A Rama Devi, tahsildar Ganga Bhavani and others were present.
