Sulakshya Seva Samithi, an NGO, celebrates its fourth anniversary

Hanamkonda: Deeds are important than words in serving the destitute, asserted Telangana Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) Regional Manager Thota Surya Kiran.

He said it will be quite easy to express sympathy towards someone in words but doing something worthwhile for someone in need and to make them happy is the most difficult thing in this world.

Surya Kiran along with Kakatiya University Registrar Prof MV Ranga Rao has attended the fourth anniversary of Sulakshya Seva Samithi, an NGO, started by a group of youngsters on Ugadi day four years ago in Warangal to strive for the well being of the society. Grand celebrations were held at Athithi Manovikasa Kendram in Hanamkonda on Wednesday marking the occasion where the guests cut a cake in the presence of the inmates of the mentally challenged children.

Addressing the gathering, Surya Kiran lauded the samithi for doing a great job in making a difference in the lives of the underprivileged. ‘I hope the samithi continues its welfare activities and excel further in the coming years.’ The KU Registrar Prof Ranga Rao said most of the society members think of doing something for the society after retirement from services. ‘It is heartening to see the society members young in age are ambitiously working for the well being of the society’.

The samithi founder-president Santhosh Manduva said they have adopted four government schools, donated 150 benches worth Rs 5.40 lakhs. More than 1,500 blankets worth Rs 3.60 lakhs were distributed to the homeless and poor while Rs 2. 40 lakhs worth books, groceries and stationary gifted to inmates of several underprivileged homes.

The samithi also engaged in planting saplings, conducting seminars on contemporary issues, financially assisted meritorious students, felicitating unsung heroes, organising heritage tours to underprivileged children, he added.

“We received many awards and testimonials from reputed personalities like ex-President of India late Dr APJ Abdul Kalam. The blessings of elderly destitute, smiles on the faces of the children, unconditional support from friends keeps us moving,” Santhosh noted.

On the occasion, the RTC Regional Manager Surya Kiran presented stationery to the inmates while the samithi offered a special lunch along with ‘Bhakshalu’, ‘Ugadi Pacchadi’ and fruits to the inmates.

The home in-charge Sambaraju Sujatha expressed her gratefulness to Sulakshya for support them for the past four years. The samithi members Kaushik Bhupathi, Sai Hruday, Suchith Sameeri, Srujan Tatipally, Kodam Vinay, Karthik, Sai Raaj, Siddhu, Mahender and few others were present.
