I want to provide a platform for students to excel

Prof K Muzaffer Ali Shahmiri, has been appointed as the founding Vice Chancellor of Dr Moulvi Abdul Haq Urdu University, Kurnool

K Muzaffer Ali Shahmiri, Professor and Head of Urdu Department, School of Humanities, University of Hyderabad (UoH) has been appointed as the founding Vice Chancellor of Dr Moulvi Abdul Haq Urdu University, Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh. The appointment has been notified by the Higher Education Department of Govt. of AP for a period of four years.

Speaking to The Young Hans, Prof Muzaffer Ali plans to revive the teaching methodologies and bring in a lot more opportunities for the students. “I want to support the students who lack in communication skills. There are many brilliant students but, just because of the language as a barrier they stay out of light. So I am planning to appoint the faculties who can converse in the local languages apart from academic knowledge. This will support the students in a better way” shares Muzaffer Ali.

He points out the need of better morals for the students which he feels are the most needed for a student’s growth. Being into the profession of teaching since 40 years he says “Out of my experience, I feel the best lessons are learnt and understood well through classroom discussions. So I am planning to train the faculty to start adopting this teaching style.”

Prof Muzaffer Ali studied at Vemana Zilla Parishad High School, Kadiri Anantapur and graduated in History, Philosophy and Urdu. He completed his post-graduation in Urdu from Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati and got his Ph D in the year 1989. He is very excited for his new appointment as a VC, his experience and his excellence in his knowledge raised him to this stage.

Prof Muzaffer Ali's areas of work include poetics, classical Urdu literature, Urdu drama, modern prose & poetry, modern & postmodern criticism, generes of Urdu literature, metaphorical studies in Urdu literature & Quran.

“The main focus will be on empowering the students with communication and interpersonal skills, which will help them in acquiring jobs in the market” sharing further, “Every student is great in their own way. I want to bring out the hidden creativity in the students by organising various activities. I want to provide them the right platform to prove themselves.”

He suggests the students, to not just end up with bachelors or degree, but also to pursue any diploma course that will in turn help in their career growth. He wishes to implement this as a mandatory education process for the students.

Also, he plans to support the girl students who wish to excel in sports, “I am appointing the best faculty for sports in order to support the girl students who dream to make a name for themselves in sports. I don’t want their talent to be blanketed; I want them to be equivalent to their male friends.”

Strengthening the teaching and learning process, digitising and modernising the university, restoring academic disciplines are among the major changes that the first VC of the Dr Moulvi Abdul Haq Urdu University plans to implement.
