Koulas village a role model for other villages now
Koulas, a village situated 100 km from the district headquarters in one of the remote corners of Jukkal mandal in Nizamabad district is once again in the limelight. In the past, the people in the villages were treated with derision, contempt and ridicule. Many people did not even know that such a village existed. The rate of literacy was very low. Nizamabad: Koulas, a village situated 100 km from the district headquarters in one of the remote corners of Jukkal mandal in Nizamabad district is once again in the limelight. In the past, the people in the villages were treated with derision, contempt and ridicule. Many people did not even know that such a village existed. The rate of literacy was very low. They used to fight with each other even over minor issues. Water scarcity was a major problem facing the village.
But now, all that is past and Koulas village has become an ideal village and a role model for people of other villages to follow. The residents of the village took a decision to and work for the development of the village collectively contributing their mite.
As Koulas village was situated on the borders of Maharashtra, it remained extremely backward and the local leaders and officials were indifferent to the needs of the village. After getting fed up, the villagers decided not to keep waiting for a savior and decided to develop the village themselves. From then onwards, the conditions in the village began to change for the better.
The people in the village decided to put an end to their infightings and instead concentrate on the development. They decided to impose prohibition by banning the sale and purchase of liquor. Besides, they also took a decision to shun non-vegetarian food. It was a voluntary decision as was not imposed using force. The youth of the village played a crucial role in this matter.
Speaking to The Hans India here on Thursday, some of the villagers, especially the youth said that they were leading a peaceful, contended and happy life after forging unity amongst themselves. Raju, one of the youths said that they could persuade the people of the villager, including the elders to stop fighting over petty issues and instead concentrate their energies for the growth and development of the village.
He said that they have shunned all the bad habits like smoking, drinking and consumption of drugs. Initially, they decided to set up a committee, comprising all the important people of the village. The committee decided to close down all the belt shops.
The villagers also pay from their own pockets for the developmental works without waiting for the government to release funds.
