Farmers, traders warn against shifting of vegetables market
The decision of the government to shift the vegetables market from Gandhi gunj to Shraddanand gunj in the city has not gone down well with the people, farmers, commission agents, wholesale and retail traders who are up in arms against the authorities concerned. Earlier, the vegetable which used to be present near the Angadi Bazaar as shifted to the 4.5 acre site at Gandhi gunj in the year 2001.
Nizamabad: The decision of the government to shift the vegetables market from Gandhi gunj to Shraddanand gunj in the city has not gone down well with the people, farmers, commission agents, wholesale and retail traders who are up in arms against the authorities concerned. Earlier, the vegetable which used to be present near the Angadi Bazaar as shifted to the 4.5 acre site at Gandhi gunj in the year 2001.
The commission agents who purchase food grains from the farmers at whole sale prices are sold at the market here. It is also convenient for the people to come here and purchase them. Now, all of a sudden, it has been decided to shift the market to Shraddanand gunj which has an area of 1.5 acres.
However, people fear that the market here is not so safe and the wholesale dealers, agricultural labourers, farmers, night workers and traders are resisting the move by the government to shift the venue of the market. As it is situated on the outskirts of the city, they fear the attacks of burglars.
In several cases, women became victims of chain snatching here and they dread to go out alone. Proper facilities are not available for the farmers and the traders.
The city dwellers are finding it difficult to come to the new venue of the agricultural market which is far away. Moreover, there is railway gate which is closed after every thirty minutes to allow the trains to pass through. This is resulting in wastage of time.
Speaking to The Hans India here on Thursday, President of the Commission Agents K Narender requested the authorities concerned not to shift the market as it would inconvenience everyone. The frequent closing down of the railway gate causes traffic jams here.
He said that it was unfortunate that though they made representations to the officials and the local political leaders, notices were issued to them to vacate the place. He warned that they would launch a big agitation to resist the move.
A retail trader Anil said that the new market place was highly congested and it would be very difficult to move around. It would be difficult for the farmers to bring their food grains to such far off places. Besides, there would be burglaries, he warned.
