Top Maoist leader and politburo member of CPI-ML (People’s War) Narayan Sanyal, who died of cancer on Monday night in Kolkata, was associated with the temple town with the police taking him into custody on January 3, 2006.

The police had picked Narayan Sanyal alias N Prasad alias Vijay while he was waiting at the bus station to catch a bus for Kothagudem to visit his relative.

The police had recovered from him a 9 mm pistol and six cartridges. Later, he was remanded to the central jail at Warangal and was released on April 4 after undergoing jail term for 90 days.

He was a contemporary of the top Maoist leader Charu Majumdar. Narayan Sanyal was described as a person who sacrificed his life and family for the sake of the naxalite ideology.
