Thatipamula (Suryapet): Nobody dares to touch broken electrical wires fearing shock that may kill them. But Kola Srinu, popular as ‘current srinu’, seems to be playing with live electric wires.

Srinu, native of Thatipamula village, Tirumalagiri mandal in Suryapet district, has studied ninth class and he is a toddy tapper by profession.

He fixes broken wires, borewell motors, checks transformers, climbs current poles to arrange jumpers, connects house supply wires etc with bare hands and bare foot and without switching off power supply.

He was unaware of his rare power. But six years ago he came to know about his body's resistance to power while joining broken wires of his agriculture bore motor directly with hands without checking power supply.

He himself was shocked to know that power supply was there when he was repairing the wires and came to the conclusion that his body has enough resistance power to hold power supplying wires.

When his unusual power came to light, the villagers of Thatipamula and Transco staff have been using his services to address various electrical related problems, free of cost or with meager payment. Since then locals have been calling him as Current Srinu.

Srinu cultivates paddy in his own two acres of agriculture land and sells 10 to 20 toddy bottles per day to provide bread and butter to his parents and his family members.

The Transco staff, who uses his services during emergencies, have reportedly promised him to get him a helper job in the department, but skipped their promise that the job requires ITI qualification.

Srinu could touch any electrical wires of single phase, repairs electrical appliances, motors and transformers, replaces melted fuses in houses.

He also climbs poles to arrange jumpers and restores snapped electrical wires on the poles during rains and gales. Not only that, he keeps live wires between his lips while repairing.

Srinu had consulted several doctors to this rare syndrome. But none can explain it. ANalgonda doctor, on the condition of anonymity, said that some people do not get shocks even after touching live power wires due to infected hands and legs.

Srinu's two children – Vamshi and Venu – said that they feel great whenever their classmates call their father as power man.

Speaking to The Hans India, current Srinu wife Uma, parents Somaiah and Satyamma said that villagers and Transco staff are using his services free of cost.

Explaining their financial status, they urged local MLA Gadari Kishore Kumar and Transco officials to give operator post in the newly established local substation.

The locals also requested the officials concerned to give Srinu a job in the local substation, giving exemption in educational qualification.
