The police of Chhattisgarh and Andhra/Telangana states on Tuesday paid glowing tributes to the slain security personnel in the Sunday’s incident by taking out a candle light rally in the border region.

Meanwhile, people living in tribal villages in Dandakaranya region are living in the grip of fear due to stepped up combing by security forces.

Sandwiched between the Maoists and the police for more than a decade, the tribals anticipate trouble in the light of Sukma incident that claimed lives of over 25 CRPF personnel.

Tribal youth in the neighbourhood of Chintalnar-Chintaguppa area moved to safer places in the light of the intensified vigil in the area.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and his deputy Hansraj Aheer and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh on Tuesday paid rich tributes to the slain security personnel.

Later, they visited the injured undergoing treatment in hospital at Raipur and enquired about the Sunday’s incident. They asked the medical officers to extend better medical care to the ailing personnel.

Later talking to media persons, Rajnath said the Centre and State governments would work jointly to keep check to the Maoists. Calling the incident an act of cowardice and cold-blooded murder, he said, “The sacrifice made by our jawans will not go waste.”

Stating that Maoist violence has become a major impediment in the development of the region, the Union Home Minister said a meeting of officials from various States has been called on May 8, to discuss the issue.

Meanwhile, a crucial meeting was held on Tuesday in Chhattisgarh with the participation of Rajnath Singh, Hansraj Aheer, Raman Singh, State Cabinet Ministers and top brass of the police department which discussed the Sukma incident and the Maoist activities in the region.

The Centre pledged its full support to the war being waged by the State Government against the Maoists.
