Govt urged to purchase chillies through Markfed: MLC Ponguleti
Congress MLC Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy demanded the government to purchase chillies through Markfed by giving an extra Rs 2,000 over the market price and save the chilli growers.
Khammam: Congress MLC Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy demanded the government to purchase chillies through Markfed by giving an extra Rs 2,000 over the market price and save the chilli growers.
Congress leaders led by Ponguleti visited the agricultural market and interacted with the chilli growers here in Khammam on Tuesday.
Distressed farmers informed the leaders that the officials were not purchasing their produce despite them camping on the market premises with thousands of chilli bags for the last six days.
After interacting with farmers, the MLC alleged that middlemen were duping growers by purchasing a quintal of chillies for meagre Rs 3,000 to 4,000.
Demanding the government to purchase the crop immediately, he asked the government to pay an extra Rs 2,000 over the market price lest they would start a movement against the government to teach a fitting lesson.
Party leaders M Veera Reddy, T Laximinarayana, Raparthi Sharath, T Gopal, Sampath, Bannu, Prakash, Srikanth and others accompanied the MLC.
