Bhadrachalam: International Gandhi Padham State unit president Dr Busireddy Shankar Reddy went on one-day hunger strike for the benefit of the farmers at Bridge Centre here on Monday.

Shankar Reddy demanded the government interlink the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) funds with agricultural works. He appealed to the government that Rs 25, 000 per acre should be directly credited into the farmers’ accounts during every seasonal crop.

He demanded justice to the chilli farmers by giving remunerative price of Rs 12,500 per quintal and demanded the Central government to release more funds to develop temple town of Bhadrachalam.

He requested the State government to prepare plans to develop the town as tourism spot to enable Bhadrachalam develop automatically. Shankar Reddy demanded tap connections to be given without NOC in the temple town.

Political party leaders Sk Azeem, Revathi, M Subba Rao, Malamahanadu state leader D Sekhar, representatives of various civil society organisations G Bhupathi Rao, Dr V Rambabu, D Narasimha Rao, farmers B Anki Reddy, B Veera Reddy expressed solidarity with Dr Busireddy Shankar Reddy.
