Finally, KUDA makes a move
The Kakatiya Urban Development Authority (KUDA), which has been sitting on 30,000-odd applications of layout regularisation scheme (LRS) for about a decade now, finally made a move to clear them on Wednesday.

There has been an inordinate delay in clearing the LRS applications with the successive governments failing to appoint KUDA Chairman for eight years till the TRS government appointed Marri Yadava Reddy as its head in November 2016.
This apart, failure to introduce new master plan has also come in the way of clearing nearly LRS applications though the scheme is likely to rake up an income of nearly Rs 150 crore for the government.
To speed up the clearance of applications and avoid irregularities, the KUDA put the entire process of LRS online thus becoming the first in the State to do so. Later, all the applicants, who had initially paid a fee of Rs 10,000, were informed through SMS to pay the remaining amount online besides uploading the scanned documents pertaining to their lay out. Despite this, the process never picked up the pace holding the dreams of many a denizen of constructing their own house.
Against this backdrop, KUDA Chairman Marri Yadava Reddy on Wednesday eased some norms to expedite the clearance of pending applications. He classified LRS applications into three based on plot size.
The applications of LRS up to 250 yards will be cleared by assistant planning officers (APOs), between 251 yards and 350 yards will be cleared by planning officers (Pos), while the vice-chairman of the KUDA (Commissioner of Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation) will take care of above 350 yards.
This apart, Reddy has also sought the permission of the government to appoint 20 B Tech civil engineers to assist the KUDA officials until all the LRS applications are disposed of. Henceforth, the officials will receive grievances related to LRS on Monday.
Speaking to The Hans India, Forum for Better Warangal president Pulluru Sudhakar said: “Nearly 70 per cent of the LRS applications are of 250 yards or below. This indicates many lower income group people have been made to wait due to delay in clearance of files. Finally, the authority took a good decision.”
