Hundreds of people, cattle pass through unmanned crossing daily

Nizamabad: Generally people complain against the unmanned railway gate which is a threat to the passing traffic. But here, there is no railway gate at all at this village to prevent people from falling under a speeding train.

The case in point is Jamlam village of Edapalli mandal in Nizamabad district where people have to cross the railway track before entering the village or to come out of the village. People should be aware of the train timings to stop at the village.

After Masaipet railway gate mishap in which several schoolchildren died when a train rammed into a school bus, the railway officials arranged railway gates wherever there were no gates.

The villagers of Jamlam need to cross the railway line if they want to enter or exit the village. Several hundreds of vehicles and cattle pass through the railway line every day. However, the railway department did not erect a gate here for reasons better known to them.

The villagers are well aware of the train timings and they stop at the railway line and sometimes they watch the arrival of train from some distance and stop there. But strangers do not know the train timings and as such they cross the track in casual manner.

There are no human casualties at this railway line so far. But several cattle died in accidents. Three trains pass through this village entrance six times every day from Secunderabad to Bodhan via Nizamabad and vice versa.

Rajesh, one of the villagers, said that it was not question of how many times the train crosses the place. There should be a gate for the safety of lives whether it is humans or cattle. “We have appealed in vain many a time to the officials to set up a gate near our village entrance,” he added.

Nagaiah, another villager, said that it appears that the officials won’t act unless there is a major accident and lives are lost. The railway had already introduced a train to Peddapalli and more train services are likely to be introduced to Bodhan.
