Kothagudem: Brisk sale of fish was reported in market here with the advent of Mrigasira Karthi on Thursday. Right from the morning, people were seen thronging the market to lay their hands on their favourite fish.

Fish markets in Kothagudem, Bhadrachalam and Manuguru reported hectic activity since morning and the markets wore festive look with large number of people making beeline to fish stalls.

The traders brought various fish species like Murrel, Ravulu, Jillelu and so on to sell on the occasion. A popular fish species Korameenu was sold at Rs 600 a kg.

Speaking to The Hans India, T Mohan Rao, an employee of a private firm said the popular sentiment was to eat fish on this day as it would bring good health. He, however, added that he felt pinched to buy fish as the prices were exorbitant.

Meanwhile, the fish traders were a happy lot. A fish seller, Seetamma, said that she had sold 25 kg of fish at the rate of Rs 450 a kg.
