75,000 students wait for uniforms
About 1.5 lakh uniforms to over 75,000 students in 1,242 primary and upper primary schools in Bhadradri-Kothagudem district are yet to be distributed even as schools to be reopened in a day or two.

Kothagudem: About 1.5 lakh uniforms to over 75,000 students in 1,242 primary and upper primary schools in Bhadradri-Kothagudem district are yet to be distributed even as schools to be reopened in a day or two.
According to sources, the fabric used for stitching uniform has been recently supplied. School management committees have to take a decision and get them stitched with the help of tailors.
The uniforms have to be stitched under the supervision of education department officials. With delay in stitching, the officials are not sure how many students would receive the uniforms by the time the schools get reopened.
Meanwhile, the stitching charges have been hiked from Rs 40 to Rs 50 a pair. Last year, allegations have surfaced that officials received their cut of commission in getting the uniforms stitched.
Even the quality of stitching was so poor that the uniforms worn out soon after students wore them for a couple of weeks.
District Educational Officer Hayagreevachary told The Hans India that efforts were on to distribute uniforms by the time the schools were reopened. His office has been monitoring the stitching works.
He further stated that there were nine Kasturba Gandhi Residential Schools for girls in the district and the government has decided to open five more in the district, that too, in English medium.
The officials could not find accommodation for these students at Bhadrachalam and Burgampahad. However, temporary accommodation has been made at Allapalli, Karakagudem and Annapureddypalli.
A notification has been issued to recruit 30 educational volunteers. The DEO further added that no orders have been received from government upgrading the Kasturba Gandhi Residential Schools to 12th standard.
