Hanamkonda: Senior Congress leader G Venkata Ramana Reddy came down heavily on Assembly Speaker S Madhusudhana Chary for his caustic remarks against the Opposition party leaders.

The Congress wanted the Speaker to tender an unconditional apology to the people of Bhupalpally constituency, saying the Speakers’ comments hurt the feelings of the common public.

Speaking to presspersons in Hanamkonda on Monday, Ramana Reddy alleged that the Speaker, Madhusudhana Chary, while addressing a gathering at a temple in Bhupalpally on Sunday, said he would conduct post-mortem of the Opposition leaders.

“What does it mean, does he wants to kill us?” he posed while showing a video clipping of the Speakers’ address. Being in a responsible position, Madhusudhana Chary was speaking in a manner that lowers his stature in the society, he noted.

The Speaker seems to be under distress as he scored less in the recently held survey to assess performance of legislators in the State and his remarks clearly indicates his mental status, he averred.

The Congress leader further complained that the Speaker was also threatening him and other Opposition leaders in the district and instigating people in the villages asking them not to allow Congress leaders to enter the villages.

This kind of behaviour of the Speaker was highly objectionable and unwarranted. Madhusudhana Chary must withdraw his remarks and tender apology to the people and to the Opposition leaders, he demanded.

Ramana Reddy said Madhusudhana Chary should uphold the honour of the seat he was holding and keep himself above the party lines while dealing with the Opposition leaders.

None would appreciate his call to people to prevent opposition leaders from visiting the villages as in a democratic set up it was the responsibility of the opposition to meet people and highlight their issues.

The Congress leader said he had visited 70 villages during last two months and everywhere the villagers were complaining about irregular release of pensions, slow pace of double bedroom housing works, lack of jobs and several other issues.

‘Is it wrong to question the ruling party for its failure to deliver the promises made to the people?’ he added.
