Adilabad: The farmers’ associations in the district demanded compensation of Rs 25,000 per acre to the soya farmers, who incurred loss due to spurious seeds.

Though the government cautioned against spurious seeds, the farmers incurred loss because of the seeds sold by cooperative societies.

It’s learnt that the agriculture officers turned a deaf ear to the complaints made by farmers. They didn’t even visit the fields to inspect damaged crops.

The farmers’ associations alleged that the agriculture officers were hand in glove with the agencies that sell spurious seeds. They warned of committing suicides if the government didn’t come to their rescue.

They appealed to the government to initiate action against companies and traders that were responsible for producing and selling spurious seeds.
