Heavy rains in the river’s catchment areas in Telangana, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh are causing the water level here to raise.

During the past 24 hours, the following are the chief amounts of rainfall recorded at various places in Telugu states and neighboring Odisha and Chhattisgarh: Koida - 7.4 cm and Kunavaram - 3.6 cm (both in AP), Bhadrachalam - 3.78 cm, Sangem - 3.4 cm and Dummugudem - 2.32 cm (Telangana), Navarangpur (Odisha) - 4.2 cm, Saradaput - 2.8 cm and Kunta - 2 cm (Chhattisgarh).

The officials have lifted the three gates of Taliperu Project in Charla mandal by two feet to let out 3,800 cusecs from it to River Godavari till Monday afternoon. Later, the project gates were closed.

The Pedda Tank and Lingalapadu Cheruvu in Charla mandal were full up to the brim. Jarripotula stream in the mandal is in spate.

However, the intensity of flood to Chinnagubbalamangi stream located between Gouraram and K Lakshmipuram villages eased to an extent.

Tahsildar Lakshman Singh visited the stream to inspect the flood level. The Murnedu stream and Kinnerasani project at Paloncha received heavy inflows.

Meanwhile, the groundwater table in Bhadradri Kothagudem district is on the rise. There are 2,352 tanks in the district. Under the Mission Kakatiya Phase-I, 431 tanks were desilted and 518 in the phase-II.

Groundwater department official Dr Ramesh Kumar went on record stating that the water table is slowly on the rise. Compared to groundwater table level in June last year, the water table level is higher in all the 23 mandals of the district.
