Hyderabad: Former MP Ponnam Prabhakar on Monday threatened fast-unto-death at Indira Gandhi statue from August 5, if the KCR government failed to give an NOC for setting up a Medical College in Karimnagar.

Speaking to the media at Gandhi Bhavan in Hyderabad, Ponnam said setting up of Medical College was a long lasting wish of the Karimnagar people.

The then chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy had announced a medical college for Karimnagar and the then Collector Smitha Sabharwal also allotted land for the same.

Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao visited Karimnagar on August 5, 2014 and assured setting up of a medical college but there was no progress on the issue even after three years. He pointed out that the State government set up medical college at Siddipet with all facilities.

“We are not finding fault with the setting up of medical college at Siddipet. But we are only asking about the KCR’s assurance given to us,” he said.
