Parkal (Warangal Rural): The fall out of districts reorganisation, carried out ten months ago in the State, seems to be troubling the State government still with protests galore at Parkal, insisting on setting up of Warangal Rural district headquarters at their place.

For the past six months, leaders of different political parties at Parkal staging demonstrations and meeting elected representatives, Opposition leaders and top government officials trying to convince them regarding their demand.

The town is simmering with protests as Parkal Zilla Headquarters Sadhana JAC, formed a month ago, with all Opposition parties and people’s organisations. A separate flag depicting Amaradhamam, a memorial for Telangana Liberation Struggle martyrs, is designed to serve as an inspiration for the fight.

“Grave injustice is caused to Parkal during districts reorganisation. Parkal was a municipality back in 1950. Parkal town with nearly one lakh population deserves to be district headquarters and it got all required facilities,” the town Municipal Councillor RP Jayanth Lal told The Hans India.

The town Congress president Pasula Ramesh informed that Parkal was made a revenue division in 1978 but later in 1987 revenue division headquarters was shifted to Mulug. ‘Due to inefficient leadership here the interests of people are being harmed time and again’.

Now, people at Parkal are feeling that the State government rubbed salt into their wound, with its reported decision to set up Warangal Rural district headquarters at Mogilicharla of Geesukonda mandal under Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation limits.

None at Mogilicharla wanted the district headquarters and even opposing it. The government should withdraw the decision and choose Parkal, where there is adequate government land and infrastructure is available. It helps development of the town, Jayanth Lal and Ramesh said.

The same is the opinion of the JAC convener Pitta Veeraswamy, Koluguri Rajeshwar Rao of TDP, Duppati Sambaiah of CPM, Nakka Chiranjeevi of CPI, O Rajamouli of Advocates JAC and others.

“Parkal has got a rich history. The people here fought against the tyranny of Nizams and played key role in statehood movement,” they said adding none will endorse the choice of Mogilicharla as Warangal rural district headquarters.

The creation of rural district is done with uneven shape and size. Locating the district headquarters again in Warangal city limits is meaningless. The government should allow other places to develop, the leaders asserted.

The local MLA Ch Dharma Reddy should quit his post and join the JAC to fight for the cause, demanded Ramesh and other JAC leaders. The MLA seems to be inclined towards Mogilicharla in order to protect his and his relatives’ interests, they alleged.

Interestingly, the ruling party MLA A Ramesh from Wardhannapet is also opposing setting up the rural district headquarters at Mogilicharla, which has become the centre of a political controversy.

As an alternate, the government is mulling over to set up the rural district quarters at Azam Jahi Mills grounds, according to the sources. The bottom line is that the public at Wardhannapet and Narsampet also formed JACs and planned series of protests seeking to set up rural district headquarters at their respective places.
