Karimnagar tops in ISL constructions

Karimnagar: In the construction of Independent Sanitary Latrines (ISLs), the Karimnagar district has bagged the top rank in the State and 20th rank at the national level, informed the District Collector Sarfaraz Ahmed in the town on Wednesday.

In a press release, the District Collector said that the District had been declared as Open Defecation Free (ODF) by fully completing the construction of ISLs in the district as part of the Swachh Bharat Mission.

Recently, the Union government had conducted a survey on the construction of toilets in all the villages by an organisation under the Union Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, which also included the details pertaining to construction works of ISLs, informed the District Collector.

In the survey, it was revealed that Karimnagar District stood at the 20th position in the entire nation, Rajanna Siricilla District at the 24th position, Jagtial at the 131st position and Peddapally bagging the 143rd position, added the District Collector.

To create awareness among the villagers and to make them use the constructed toilets, the week-long celebrations of ‘Swachh Open Defecation Free’ programmes would be organised from the village to the mandal level across the district, the Collector said.

Sarfaraz Ahmed congratulated the officials of the departments concerned who worked hard and completed the construction works, thus, bringing laurels to the district.
