Bhadrachalam: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has set its eyes on four ST Assembly constituencies of Bhadradri-Kothagudem district i.e., Bhadrachalam, Pinapaka, Illandu and Aswaraopeta constituencies for the 2019 Assembly elections.
Earlier, the presence of the BJP in the four ST constituencies was only nominal. However, taking advantage of the BJP in power at the Centre and keeping in mind the changing political equations, the BJP has set its sight on 2019 elections. In this regard, the BJP leadership held state and district executive meetings here recently.
BJP national president Amit Shah, Union Ministers Hansraj Ahir and Bandaru Dattatreya, party national general secretary Muralidhar Rao and others paid special attention to the four ST constituencies of the district. As part of it, they conducted meetings in different districts and targeted their criticism against the omissions and commissions of the State government.
The saffron party is said to have identified the party candidates in advance for the 2019 elections and set the stage for inducting various SC and ST leaders into the party fold. It may be recalled that former MLA Kunja Satyavati along with her husband crossed over to the party in the presence of Union Ministers Bandaru Dattatreya, Hansraj and state president of the party Dr K Lakshman at a recent BJP state executive held at Warangal.
In Pinapaka Assembly constituency, the BJP successfully wooed former MLA and ZP chairman in the undivided Khammam district, Chanda Lingaiah, into its fold long back.
Organisational strengthening of the party is essential in the Bhadradri-Kothagudem district to play a crucial role in the 2019 elections. Earlier, there were instances of Congress, Left parties and the BJP playing significant roles because of the strong cadres and good command over the constituency.
Describing themselves as viable alternative to the TRS in the district, the BJP is keen on strengthening the party from polling booth level to that of the Assembly constituency.
Because of the paucity of time, the BJP leaders have been touring the district to infuse confidence among the party rank and file. Further, they decided to give wide publicity to the Central government programmes and schemes. An action plan has been formulated to fight the people’s issues.
Making clear this to The Hans India, district president of the BJP Byreddy Prabhakar Reddy said the BJP would soon launch a struggle on Podu cultivation.
