Khammam: As part of the nation-wide strike call given by the United Forum of Bank Union (UFBU), the representatives of various bank unions took part in the strike here at the State Bank of India in Khammam on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion, All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA) member Narasinga Rao alleged that instead of taking steps for recovering the money from loan defaulters, the government was trying to privatise the government sector banks.

“The government is trying to establish only 5 to 6 banks by merging all the government banks citing the reasons of poor performance and is trying to loot the innocent people by collecting services charges from them,” Rao criticised.

Demanding the government to not to give licences to private and foreign organisations to open branches of their banks, he urged the government to open new branches along with recruiting new staff.

He also demanded the government pay gratuity of Rs 20 lakh each to bank employees apart from providing tax exemption. AITUC leader Shingu Narasimha Rao and the CITU leaders Kalyanam Venkateshwarlu extended their support to the employees strike.

SBI officers Association president Chandrashekar, Suresh, AIBDA leader Prasad and NCBE leader Nandan were present along with others.
