Peddapalli: “There is a need to encourage folk arts in Telangana region,” district in-charge Collector S Prabhakar Reddy felt after inaugurating a rally on the occasion of World Folklore Day here on Tuesday. ‘Telangana Samskruti Kala Sangalu’ had organised the rally from the Collectorate to Telangana Thalli statue.

Addressing the participants, the in-charge Collector said the folk artists of different regions perform different arts and every word in folk art carries some information. The words in folk art are called the words of knowledge, which carry the rich tradition and culture of their particular region. Telangana is enriched with several types of folk arts and folk artists.

The folk artists must create awareness among the people about their art and also about the welfare activities and schemes introduced by the State government with their various forms of folk arts, he suggested. Folk arts celebrations will be organised on August 27 in the district as part of Janapada Jatara-2017 in the State.

It is the responsibility of everyone to preserve the folk art and to pass it on to the next generation, Prabhakar Reddy advised. District Youth and Sports Officer K Rajaveer, Additional Public Relation Officer V Sridhar and the several folk artists were participated in the rally.
