Thiruvananthapuram: The number of Company Secretaries in India has crossed the 52,000-mark and more than four lakh students are aspiring to be one.

The figures were revealed on the eve of the 45th National Convention of Company Secretaries to be held over three days here starting on Wednesday. The meeting will discuss on what should be the vision for 'New Corporate India'.

Shyam Agrawal, President of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI), told the media on Tuesday that the theme of the event was "Shaping New India 2022, Through Good Governance".

"The institution has been relentlessly working towards promoting good corporate governance practices. The meeting will deliberate threadbare the role of company secretaries as 'Governance Professionals' and how they can help to attain the goal of powered governance and in turn the stakeholders' empowerment," said Agrawal. ICSI has its headquarters at New Delhi, four regional councils at Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai and New Delhi and 69 chapters spread all over the country. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the three-day meeting.
