Mayor donates clothes to fishers

Rajamahendravaram: Rajahmundry Municipal Corporation Mayor Pantam Rajani Sesha Sai and Godavari Urban Development Authority (GUDA) Chairman Ganni Krishna, donated clothes to the fishermen on the banks of River Godavari here on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion, GUDA Chairman Ganni Krishna, said that on the occasion of World Fisheries Day, they decided to distribute sarees and blankets to the poor in the fishermen community. He also informed that the fishermen community was hardly aware of any activity other than fishing.

He further said that due to an increase of pollution in oceans and rivers, the population of fish and the availability of fish have decreased drastically in the recent years.

Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Rajani Sesha Sai, informed that these fishermen entirely depended on the river fishing and due to the industrial pollution their lives were affected a lot in the recent years. She expressed her joy on distributing the needy clothes to the poor fishermen.
