Hyderabad: A high profile team from Punjab Social Welfare Department led by Ripu Daman Singh, visited Telangana Social welfare residential school, Gowlidoddi and its IIT Academy.

The team impressed with the different curricular and extra-curricular activities being implemented by the TSWREIS in providing quality education to poor children. The team appreciated the Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao for his vision for the holistic development of marginalised communities. The Telangana residential model of education is the best in the country, and the government of Punjab is keen on emulating this model, said Ripu Daman Singh.

The team members also held meeting with Dr RS Praveen Kumar, Secretary, TSWREIS, and P. Karunakar, Director, SCDD. The TSWREIS Secretary and the Director, SCDD, briefed various schemes and programmes being implemented by for the welfare of Scheduled Caste communities.

Speaking to the team members, Dr Kumar said, close to eight lakh poor children will study in residential schools by 2020 under the KG-PG mission, and the government is planning to spend more than 15000 crore in the coming years to give a major push to residential schools.

Dr Kumar thanked the Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and the Minister for Scheduled Caste Development Department G. Jagadish Reddy for approving a number of schemes unheard of in the country’s education sector and for helping poor SC children to pursue higher studies, besides providing nutritious diet and laptops under the KG.-PG Mission.
