Amidst devotional fervour and traditional pomp, Bonalu celebrations began with the Ujjaini Mahankali Jathara in Secunderabad on Friday. Executive Officer of Ujjaini Mahankali Temple, S Annapoorna informed, “More than 16 lakh devotees are expected to visit the temple on Sunday and Monday for the festival.”

Talking about the preparations Deputy Commissioner of Police for North Zone, B Sumathi said, “Elaborate arrangements are made to ensure hassle free darshan and security is beefed up by deploying 3,000 police personnel,

including women constables and more than 125 surveillance cameras have been installed at all important points to keep a vigil during the celebrations and also to prevent and detect antisocial elements and unauthorised persons entry into the temples premises.

“No DJ permission is given in temple premises and in the neighbouring areas to ensure not much sound is made for the convenience of the people,” he added.
