The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) emergency cell received as many as 203 phone calls pertaining to grievances due to the heavy rains on Wednesday. The Corporation setup an emergency cell where citizens call dial 100 and 040-21 11 11 11.

The emergency cell received 77 complaints pertaining to water logging, 68 manhole related issues, 151 issues relating to collapsed walls and tree fall. Besides this, it also received 31 complaints pertaining to The Transmission Corporation of Telangana Limited (TS TRANSCO) department and 21 Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) related issues.

Of them, the civic body has resolved about 90 grievances and about 110 were still pending. Meanwhile, the city witnessed heavy downpour that reached up to 95.75mm in two hours. The downpour brought life in the city to a standstill.

Low-lying areas were flooded and roads were congested for hours with overflowing manholes. Citing this, the corporation has opened a helpline and put its emergency squads into service to drain waterlogged areas. The GHMC commissioner B Janardhan Reddy has appealed to people not to venture out of their houses.
