Marrying traditional concepts with the fast food trend, the global brand Barcelos with a menu that is loosely based on Portuguese recipes, that originated in South Africa has travelled across the world, to India and now, to Hyderabad. Quaint looking doors and windows, warm interiors and a buzzing bar defines the lively interiors at the spacious Barcelos outlet in Sujana Forum Mall, Kukatpally.

The food is a recreation of the standardised menu served across the outlets – be it Durban, Delhi or Hyderabad. The colourful burgers including the black one that seems to have become a fad now, the chickens that are flame grilled so well, flavoured with the secret sauce (even though the flavour could have been a bit more enhanced for the Hyderabadi palate), the hanging grilled pieces of chicken breast and peppers – Espetada served with sides that could include the spicy rice – which is more like flavoured rice, the crazily popular chicken wings (but these ones are marinated using Peri spices and mayo), chicken liver cooked with peri and served with port roll, which is short for Portuguese roll that tastes delicious when you dip it in the liver and eat, wraps and pita, pastas, steaks – the menu is varied and aims to satiate the fast food lovers’ taste buds with something that’s different and more extensive.

What needs special mention is indeed the bar menu with some popular mixes that includes delicious shakes (there’s even a brownie shake and a berry shake) that will entice the kids in general and the hidden child in the adults, and then there are the iced teas and kind. The dazzling variety of Sangrias too is what one should look for – How about a Carribean Sangria with Malibu or the Kiwi Sangria using the white wine for a start?
Strategic location, chicken loving foodies, huge portions of the dishes, a great bar, and cool interiors will work well with the new entrant on the food scene– Barcelos in Hyderabad.
