Banjara Hills: Virinchi Hospitals entered into a strategic collaboration with MedGenome for molecular diagnostics here on Tuesday.

As an outcome of this alliance, Virinchi will offer a range of MedGenome's genetic tests concerned with specialities including but not limited to cardiology, ophthalmology, oncology, neurology, nephrology, diabetes, dermatology, haematology, connective tissue and metabolic disorders to their patients with enhanced precision.

Speaking on the inauguration, Dr Chirantan Bose, Vice-President, Clinical Services, MedGenome, said, “India has a huge burden of genetic disorders and it is imperative to embrace genomic solutions for the benefit of public at large. MedGenome’s continuous innovation is helping reduce the costs of previously expensive genetic tests, and empowering clinicians with actionable insights to provide better outcomes for their patients.”

Commenting on the partnership, Dr Murty Nekkanti, Medical Director, Virinchi Hospitals, said, “The aim of this collaboration is to help the clinician with molecular information for accurate as well as precise diagnosis, prognosis and management of multitude of diseases that have genetic basis.

And, genetic testing has gradually been gaining prominence and significance in terms in effectively diagnosing and managing many rare to common diseases such as Spinal muscular atrophy, Huntington’s disease, and Inborn errors of metabolism.”

Dr Charuta J Puranik, Ophthalmologist said genetics in ophthalmology was relevant in case of retinitis pigmentosa to prognosticate the disease progression. “We can find out if a child or sibling will be affected. It can be used in case of retinoblastoma to assess risk of metastatic disease, corneal dystrophies related to the macular degeneration,” she said
