Jubilee Hills: Swarna Prashana (Suvarna Prashana) also known as Swarna Amruta Prashana is a unique Ayurvedic preparation proven to enhance the immune power of human body. ‘Swarna’ means gold and ‘Prashana’ refers to act of consuming. Thus, the act of consuming gold is considered as one of the 16 essential Sanskars (regimens) described for improving overall health in children.

In an effort to improve immunity among children, a city-based ayurvedic practitioner, Dr Ravinder Reddy Gayam is providing the medicine free of cost for over three years now on ‘Pushya Nakshatra’. Out of 16 ‘samskaras’, ‘Swarna Amrita Prashana’ is the one that helps in improving memory, keeps away from seasonal disease and other problems.

“According to Ayurveda our body needs to get right nourishment to support proper physical and mental development that can sustain till the old age. Swarna Prashan is therefore recommended to be taken immediately after birth and continued till the age of 16 years.

It is made using swarna bhasma (gold ash) mixed with honey and cow ghee containing herbal extracts like vacha, brahmi, shankupushpi, all of which show strong immune boosting properties,” says Dr Ravinder in an interaction with City Life and adds that its production is based on Vedas.

Explaining about the benefits of the medicine, he highlights that it helps children in improving memory; keeping away evil spirits, seasonal diseases, and other chronic ailments.“I had started providing these medicines free in as ashram and temples in 2014 with only 400 children. Now, there are nearly 75,000 children who take this medicine every month,” shares the doctor.

‘Swarna Amruta Prashana’ is currently administered in Vijayawada, Mahabubnagar, Nizamabad, Guntur, Amalapuram, Vijaynagar, Vizag, Kakinada, Achampet, Kodad and Miryalaguda. “Apart from districts this medicine is provided in Coimbatore, Singapore, Sydney, Texas and New Jersey,” he adds.

Incurring a cost of up to Rs 1.5 lakh, Dr Ravinder’s efforts are funded either through donations or mostly through his own pocket. While the effort is commendable, the implementation of Goods Service and Tax (GST) has posed a challenge to the doctor.

“Hurdles will come, but one must go on. The next camp for the medicine will be on January 4,” he smiles.
