15,000 wrestlers to arrive for Veer Kesari tournament

A 26- year- old city- based young wrestler Mettu Shiva Krishna, who has taken part at the national level and has been five times south India gold medalist (Lala Kesari) is organising the Veer Kesari Telangana wrestling tournament. For the first time in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana this wrestling tournament which is going to be held in June at L.B Indoor stadium will have wrestling stars like Sushil Kumar, Yogeshwar Dutt and Sakshi Malik as judges for the event.
Speaking to The Hans India the organiser said “For the first time I’m conducting wrestling tournament at Hyderabad, because personally I have seen many male and female wrestlers are from north side and most of them don’t know what is wrestling. Most of the people think that we do wrestling only for the sake of money, which is wrong. In Hyderabad we don’t have any stadium for practice and government does not support us”.
“I personally train 30 to 40 students free of cost and I provide diet for them, most them are from poor background. Talking about diet expenditure includes 4 kg almonds and 8 kg ghee because some people can’t even afford it. So I provide them a few litres of milk, ghee, dry fruits and fruits. Morning 3 litres of milk, two apples and 150 gram butter. I spend 40% of my salary for this. Once they are trained here then I personally send them to Sushil Kumar Akhada” he says.
“When I spoke to Sushil Kumar and Yogeshwar Dutt about the tournament they said that this wrestling tournament for male and female has been a late event at Hyderabad, but it’s good that even from south region we can see one more Sakshi Malik and they have supported me a lot.
Most of the females from villages are taking part in the tournaments who are inspired by Sakshi Malik. Whoever wins the Veer Kesari Telangana title will be awarded Royal Enfield classic bullet bike and for female Activa 4G” he adds.
Around 15000 are expected to take part in the tournament and most of them are from Karimnagar, Vizag, Vijayawada, Hyderabad and Rajahmundry, Krishna says.
