Marredpally: Dr R Harinarayana Rao, cricket coach and others on behalf of Marredpally play grounds sent in a representation to Commissioner, GHMC protesting against a bus bay being constructed on the grounds. ‘We, the sportsmen, women, residents, sport loving public are deeply concerned and disappointed to know that 6 mts Marredpally play ground land is being cut to accommodate a bus bay soon. This decision will disturb the sporting activities particularly the game of cricket. The ground will become very small and will not be fit for playing matches. This is the only play ground left for the sport loving public in West and East Marredpally area.

This play ground has a huge history for producing many state, university and International sportsmen. To mention a few products of this ground are Late M.L.Jaisimha, Late Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, Errapalli Prasanna, N Shival Yadav, .M.V.NarasimhaRao, L.Venkatapati Raju, V.V.S.Laxman, Mitali Raj and many others in Cricket and triple Olympian, N.Mukesh Kumar the Hockey International have brought laurels to this country by nurturing themselves in this play ground. This history cannot be erased. The memories of many sportsmen and women who have been proud learners in this ground will be pained to learn this action to cut the ground.

In this ground Municipal Corporation has been conducting regular year long cricket coaching camp, Baseball camp for young and aspiring boys and girls for the last 40 years and large number of children are building their sporting skills and personality development.

We all join to request you to kindly shift this proposal to another place and save Marredpally play grounds for the next many generations to come. No development at the cost of future generations career in sports, recreation, health and personality development can be welcomed by any wise men. In his concluding part of the letter, the coach requests GHMC to ‘ please consider our request positively and stop any such construction which will effect severely the interests of young children and sportsmen, women of our locality’.
